Prodigals International is launching two new Partners in Process groups, designed as safe, supportive spaces for women who have experienced the pain of sexual betrayal.  The 12-step format offers a proven path toward restoration, hope, and personal empowerment as women are afforded the opportunity to to connect, share, and heal together.  Each group will be led by a seasoned, compassionate leader with extensive experience guiding others through recovery. Here are their stories:

Julie’s story…

The word trauma has become a very common word in our society.  Bessel Van Der Kolk, a leading trauma specialist, explains in his book The Body Keeps the Score that betrayal by a spouse can cause the highest level of emotional trauma. I would personally agree. For several years in my own recovery from betrayal trauma, the Prodigals Partners in Process groups were a lifeline for me. As I struggled to keep my head above water, I knew that I could find understanding and comfort from the other women. I found out that I wasn’t crazy! We were there with each other on this unwanted and sometimes treacherous journey. I no longer felt alone. Through the materials we covered, conferences we attended together, and resources we shared, we were finding our healing as God’s treasured daughters together. I learned about sexual addiction and recovery, healthy boundaries, and post traumatic growth.
Partners in Process, as an ongoing Christian recovery meeting, is confidential and anonymous. Because it is not curriculum based, it is open to women dealing with betrayal trauma without registration or cost, without waiting for the next ‘start date’.  This, to me, is crucial. Although the curriculum-based classes are very valuable, betrayed women need immediate support! After 21 years on this journey, I want to be a support to other women, not as a counselor or advice giver, but as one who can validate the pain and uncertainty on this road to recovery. My own experience of facilitating a Partners in Process group and other betrayal recovery groups, in addition to being a fire department crisis intervention specialist/licensed chaplain for 10 years, also helped to equip me for this. I desire to see women dealing with this heartbreak find adequate support and healing with the truth of God’s love and compassion.

Beverly’s story…

The group meets you where you are, but they don’t leave you there. Being embraced by women who have had true healing from their pain was encouraging and refreshing. It gave me hope, which was so lacking in my life. You are given tools to change your reality and to move forward while being genuinely loved. Sharing with other women on a similar journey, as every woman’s story is different, with similar sets of circumstances. It’s the only group I attended where the rubber met the road. It is a place of encouragement, honesty, hard work, tough love and celebration of lives restored. It doesn’t focus on the outcome we learn to leave the outcome to God; rather we learn to just do the next right thing. For myself, learning that key truth was life giving and so freeing. In addition, learning what a healthy boundary is and how to hold it. MORE importantly, what a boundary is NOT. Untangling that was so very helpful to me in all my relationships. My PIP groups have been life affirming and life giving.  I continue to be apart of a group as the relationships developed are deep and it helps me to stay on track with my thinking and feelings. Life restored.

Whether you’re just starting your journey or seeking deeper healing, Partners in Process groups are designed to provide the tools and support you need to reclaim your life and rediscover your strength.
